                                   STEWARDSHIP

Redesign is premised on the process of review, reflection, and renewal. It presupposes that the influence of time has revealed new truths and additional possibilities. It opens the door to real growth and transformation. This is design thinking that can revive and repair authenticity and meaning in our lives.

This exceptionally critical ability to design and redesign requires economic and social infrastructure.  Such ability is of high value and those who have or can develop these skills must be able to sustain a living doing so for any model of sustainability to be sustainable.

The natural world is our guide and our gift. After more than three decades in which extensive research and data has unequivocally identified the problem and underscored the crisis, very little has improved: projected increases in production and waste continue to confound the senses.

It is without doubt a huge and complex problem, yet a core issue remains unaddressed: sustainability does not attract investment. In order to thrive in the fashion industry, designers must create for the mass market or soak in a green bath. Those who are well-funded and strongly supported by traditional equity investors are on target to create huge returns on investment, because only more makes more. Until there is a systems-wide economic infrastructure to support sustainable business, the effort towards sustainability is just well-meaning rhetoric.

We must act intentionally, collectively, and by design.
